About Us

Pharmaceutical Research Computing (PRC) is a research center within the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research in the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Pharmacy.  Our staff is a group of highly skilled professionals in the fields of information technology, statistics, computer programming, and pharmacy.  Together, we strive to provide quality research support for faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and other researchers with data warehousing and analysis needs.  PRC is self-supported by revenues generated from the services we provide.

Since our inception in 1998, PRC has partnered with numerous experienced researchers on different type of projects that are funded by the sources listed below.  Many of these projects have resulted in publications in peer-reviewed journals and reports submitted to federal or state agencies.

bullet Federal government agencies (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, NCI, FDA)
bullet State government agencies (e.g., Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, Maryland Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene, University of Massachusetts)

bullet Foundations (e.g., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Commonwealth Foundation)
bullet Pharmaceutical companies
bullet Other public and private sectors
We have extensive experience working with

bullet Large administrative claims and encounter data (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, HMO)
bullet Secondary data (e.g., SEER-Medicare, USRDS, Marketscan, National VHA, ARF, MEPS)
bullet Primary data including pharmacy and medical information (e.g., service evaluation, survey)

In addition, we have developed a drug dictionary for the MCBS drug data as well as a web-based data query system where authorized users can run queries and access results by file transfer protocol.
