Hosue Hernandez
Jose Josue Hernandez, RPh,
MPH is a doctoral candidate in the
Pharmaceutical Health Services Research program at the University of
Maryland, School of Pharmacy, as well as an MS candidate at the
Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine program in the School of Medicine. He
received an MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Puerto Rico, School
of Public Health. In addition, he obtained his pharmacy degree from the
University of Puerto Rico, School of Pharmacy.
Jose’s
research interests are in factors associated with suboptimal prescribing
among elderly patients, as well as variations in medication use and
prescribing among elderly patients with cognitive impairment. He is
currently working on several projects related to measures of suboptimal
prescribing among elderly patients; including his dissertation project “Quality
of Prescribing Among Long Term Care Residents” under the direction of
Dr. Ilene Zuckerman, and a study in collaboration with
Chulalongkorn University faculty, in Bangkok, Thailand, “Prevalence and
Risk Factors Associated with Suboptimal Prescribing among Elderly
Outpatients Visiting the Chulalongkorn
University Hospital Outpatient Clinics”. Jose provides lectures in the
University of Maryland’s PharmD curriculum. In addition, he works
part-time as a community pharmacist.
Upon completion of his dissertation, Jose is
planning a career in academia and to continue his research in the areas
related to the pharmacoepidemiology of aging.
