The Peter Lamy
Center for Drug Therapy and Aging serves as the focal point for
geriatric research, education, and service within the University
of Maryland School of Pharmacy. The Center is named in honor of
its founder, Peter P. Lamy, PhD, ScD (1925–1994), a renowned
educator in the field of geriatric pharmacotherapy and the first
holder of the Parke-Davis Chair in Geriatric Pharmacotherapy at
the School of Pharmacy.
Our Mission
The Lamy Center is dedicated to
improving drug therapy for aging adults through innovative
research, education and clinical initiatives.
Research
Initiatives
To produce new scientific knowledge with practical application in
improving access to and outcomes of pharmaceutical care for
elderly patients.
Educational Initiatives
To provide students, practitioners and the elderly with up-to-date
and accessible information on the best practices in geriatric
pharmacotherapy. The center funds graduate research
assistantships and provides support to a geriatric residency
program, community outreach programs and the production of
patient/provider education materials.
Clinical
Initiatives
To strengthen the ties between education and practice by giving
faculty and pharmacy residents the opportunity to apply principals
of pharmaceutical care to older patients in various settings.
These initiatives are made possible
through external gifts, grants and contracts. If you are
interested in learning more about project sponsorship or gift
opportunities to further the mission of the Center, please
