Ann
Gruber-Baldini, PhD,
Assistant Professor, Department of Epidemiology & Preventive
Medicine, Division of Gerontology, at the University of Maryland
School of Medicine.
Dr.
Gruber-Baldini's research interests are in gerontology, epidemiology
of aging, longitudinal methods, cognitive functioning, and
the impact of chronic conditions on functioning. Her experience
has included work with both community-dwelling and institutionalized
elderly.
Much of her current effort is spent as the senior analyst
for the both the University of Maryland Long-Term Care Project
and the Collaborative Studies of Long-term Care.
Dr.
Gruber-Baldini’s research is currently investigating the interaction
of cognition (including dementia and delirium) and health
in hospitals, rehabilitation, and long-term care settings.
She has been the Principal Investigator of pilot studies that
examine the cognitive functioning of hip fracture patients
in the hospital and the rehabilitation placement of hip fracture
patients with dementia. She currently studies issues related
to health outcomes, health service utilization, and costs
of nursing home residents with dementia and examining the
treatment of residents with mental health concerns (including
dementia, behavioral problems, and depression) in residential
care/assisted living facilities. She also examines measurement
issues in long-term care, including measurement of cognition
and dementia in long-term care, use of Medicare and Medicaid
data in nursing home cohorts, and the utility of the Minimum
Data Set for research use.
