Stuart, B. (P.I.) "Coverage, Access, and Use of Prescription Drugs by Diabled Medicare Beneficiaries." Co-funded by the Commonwealth Fund and the Kaiser Family Foundation, (2001-2002)

Description

COVERAGE, ACCESS, AND USE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
BY DISABLED MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES

This project profiles disabled Medicare beneficiaries’ access to prescription coverage and utilization of drug products during 1998 by identifying problem areas specific to the disabled, and comparing population characteristics, drug use patterns, prescription coverage, and other relevant access measures for the elderly and disabled.

The analysis consist of (1) descriptive cross-tabulations of population characteristics of disabled and aged Medicare beneficiaries, (2) a needs assessment for prescription coverage by the disabled, (3) an analysis of state-level barriers/enhancements to coverage, (4) a profile of factors identified by beneficiaries as limiting access to pharmaceuticals, and (5) a comparison of the most commonly used drugs by disabled and aged beneficiaries as a function of prescription coverage status.
