The Lamy Center has now embarked on a new series of Know Your Medicine brochures also supported by Warner Lambert and the Parke-Davis
Company. This series addresses treatment regimens for common chronic diseases in the
elderly including hypertension, Type II diabetes, congestive heart failure, osteoporosis, depression, and hyperlipidemia. The brochures on hypertension and Type II diabetes are being written in two formats; one for a patient audience with average literacy and another for low-literacy patients. This series was completed in the Spring of 2000.
Each of the 12-16 page brochures was authored by a geriatric pharmacy specialist and then evaluated by focus groups of seniors in the community. Our aim was to communicate the latest information on best therapeutic practices in language that is clear and understandable to patients.
The titles of the six brochures are:
Know Your Medicines: Cholesterol
Know Your Medicines: Congestive Heart Failure
Know Your Medicines: Depression
Know Your Medicines: Diabetes
Know Your Medicines: High Blood Pressure
Know Your Medicines: Osteoporosis
