Cherokee Layson-Wolf, PhD, graduated from the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy in 2000.  She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with an Emphasis in Community Care at the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Pharmacy and Ukrop’s Pharmacy in Richmond, Virginia.  During her residency, Dr. Layson-Wolf participated in developing patient care programs centered in disease state management.  She provided the “Living with Diabetes” education and management course to 12 patients at one Ukrop’s location and monitored patient progress over 6 months.  She also participated in multiple blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings and also provided immunizations.

Dr. Layson-Wolf joined the faculty at the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy in July 2002.  Her main focus is developing patient care programs with NeighborCare Professional Pharmacies, a local pharmacy chain in Baltimore.  She provides regular blood pressure screenings and health awareness events at several NeighborCare locations in Baltimore, and participates in various health fairs and provides patient education talks that emphasize medication safety.

Dr. Nicole Brand and Dr. Layson-Wolf have developed the “Rx Savings for Seniors Program”, which assists seniors in the Baltimore metropolitan area to register for industry sponsored drug discount programs.  This program is the major focus of a study currently being conducted by Drs. Brandt and Layson-Wolf to determine the satisfaction with use of the cards as well as ease of use as indicated by the participants.

At the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy, Dr. Layson-Wolf teaches various topics, such as osteoporosis,  in the Integrated Science and Therapeutics Course, as well as course-manages the community clinical rotations completed by Pharm.D. candidates in their last year of study.
