Cherokee
Layson-Wolf, PhD, graduated from the University of Maryland,
School of Pharmacy in 2000.
She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with an
Emphasis in Community Care at the Virginia Commonwealth University
College of Pharmacy and Ukrop’s Pharmacy in Richmond, Virginia.
During her residency, Dr. Layson-Wolf participated
in developing patient care programs centered in disease state
management. She provided the “Living with Diabetes” education and management
course to 12 patients at one Ukrop’s location and monitored
patient progress over 6 months.
She also participated in multiple blood sugar, cholesterol
and blood pressure screenings and also provided immunizations.
Dr.
Layson-Wolf joined the faculty at the University of Maryland,
School of Pharmacy in July 2002.
Her main focus is developing patient care programs
with NeighborCare Professional Pharmacies, a local pharmacy
chain in Baltimore. She provides regular blood pressure screenings and health awareness
events at several NeighborCare locations in Baltimore, and
participates in various health fairs and provides patient
education talks that emphasize medication safety.
Dr.
Nicole Brand and Dr. Layson-Wolf have developed the “Rx Savings
for Seniors Program”, which assists seniors in the Baltimore
metropolitan area to register for industry sponsored drug
discount programs. This
program is the major focus of a study currently being conducted
by Drs. Brandt and Layson-Wolf to determine the satisfaction
with use of the cards as well as ease of use as indicated
by the participants.
At
the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy, Dr. Layson-Wolf
teaches various topics, such as osteoporosis,
in the Integrated Science and Therapeutics Course,
as well as course-manages the community clinical rotations
completed by Pharm.D. candidates in their last year of study.
