The Peter Lamy Center for Drug Therapy and Aging
About Us
Michael Brodeur, PharmD
With much help for the Maryland chapter of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and the Retired Persons Services, Inc of AARP, the Lamy Center inaugurated an annual residency in geriatric pharmacotherapy beginning in July, 2000. Michael Brodeur, PharmD, our first geriatric pharmacotherapy resident, is a registered pharmacist who completed his Doctor of Pharmacy training at St. Johns University, Queens, N.Y in May. Michael can be found in Room 106, Century Building when he is not off on one of his many assignments. He will be exposed to all facets of geriatrics, including long-term care, subacute care, and ambulatory care, as well as teaching at the School of Pharmacy. He will also work with RPS on mail order pharmacy and the state and national branches of ASCP on legislative issues.
Michael helped organize the Mid-Atlantic ASCP Conference in August and served as a moderator on medication issues in skilled nursing facilities at the Beacon Institute Long Term Care Conference at Levindale, Baltimore in September. In coming months, he will work with RPS on mail order pharmacy and the state and national branches of ASCP on legislative issues. Michael has set high goals for his year at the Center including certification in geriatric pharmacy and conducting research on medication adherence in the elderly. Upon completing his residency, Michael hopes to find a position in academia specializing in geriatric pharmacotherapy. Michael can be reached by e-mail at mbrodeur@rx.umaryland.edu.
We want to acknowledge all of the individuals and organizations who helped establish this residency program. Special thanks are due Richard Baylis, President of MD-ASCP; Arnold Clayman MD-ASCP Consultant and Legislative Liason; Alisa Billington, Consultant Pharmacist; Paul Goebel, PharmD Clinical Pharmacist RPS; and Steve Konsin Exectutive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Brian Frid Chief Executive Officer with RPS/AARP. Without their dedication, time, and financial contributions, the residency would not have been possible.
