Nicole Brandt, PharmD, CGP, BCPP, Assistant Professor Geriatric Pharmacotherapy, Director of Clinical and Educational Programs at the Peter Lamy Center on Drug Therapy and Aging, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, University of MD School of Pharmacy. She earned her doctorate in pharmacy in 1997 and joined the faculty of University of Maryland after a year of service as the coordinator of pharmacy educational and clinical services at the Rosewood Center and Spring Grove Hospital.

She completed a geriatric residency focusing on skills in clinical pharmacy to complete prospective medication reviews in assisted living facilities and evaluating health outcomes. As the Deputy Director of the Lamy Center she coordinates the educational initiatives of the "Elder Education" programs, as well as conducts research in geriatric medication and education issues. She has recently redone the ElderCare Brochures as well as create "Know Your Medicine" brochures. Dr. Brandt’s most recent research includes working with the Maryland Geriatrics and Gerontology Education and Research Program (GGEAR) on a project investigating medication management in congregate housing.

This pilot program developed into an AARP Andrus Foundation grant, which is validating an instrument for identifying medication deficiencies. This tool will be used on future collaborative studies linking it to appropriate interventions based on deficiencies. As a clinician, she works on a geriatric evaluation medical unit (GEMU) at the Baltimore VAMC and consults on two different comprehensive geriatric assessment programs at Sinai Hospital and Baltimore VAMC.

She has recently contracted with ElderHealth, a managed care organization that provides care to Medicare and Medicaid eligible seniors, to provide pharmaceutical care. She is also the coursemaster for geriatric experiential sites and she teaches several courses focusing on geriatric pharmacy and gerontology issues. She mentors and precepts students who are interested in geriatric pharmacotherapy at various geriatric elective sites. In addition, she is the program director for a specialized geriatric pharmacy resident.
