ASHP: ASHP is a national professional organization of 30,000 members that represents pharmacists who practice in settings such as hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, home care and other components of health care systems. ASHP, which has a long history of medication-error prevention efforts, believes that the mission of pharmacists is to help people make the best use of their medications. Assisting pharmacists in fulfilling this mission is ASHP's primary objective.
MSHP: The Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacists consists of practitioners of health-system pharmacy, technicians, students, and other MSHP members. MSHP enables the health-system pharmacy community to improve patient outcomes by supporting education, research, advocacy, development, and integration of pharmacy practitioners as integral members of the health care team.
Student Chapter: Our mission as the ASHP/MSHP student chapter is to promote student awareness of pharmacy practice in health systems; provide information to students about career directions in and credentials needed for pharmacy practice in health systems; and encourage membership and participation in ASHP and MSHP. In addition, the UM chapter of ASHP/MSHP encourages interaction among professional organizations in the School of Pharmacy and with other professional schools in the UM campus.
