Phi Delta Chi was founded on November 2, 1883 by eleven men at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. We are the first professional fraternity of pharmacy founded by pharmacists. The Iota chapter was founded in 1905 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. "The object of this association shall be to advance the science of pharmacy and it's allied interests and to foster and promote a spirit of brotherhood among its members." Phi Dex brothers have traditionally held many prominent positions within the country. Within the pharmaceutical manufacturing field such names as Lilly, Weeks and Meyer are familiar. Many are prominent in politics. In fact, one brother, Hubert H. Humphrey, served as Vice President of the United States. Many others are well-known in their communities as well. Phi Delts from across the nation meet regularly to discuss fraternity issues, meet fellow brothers, and to decide the future of the fraternity. National Grand Councils are held biannually, the most recent held in Omaha, Nebraska (August 2013). In addition, regional meetings and leadership seminars are also periodically organized.
