MS in Regulatory Science Scholarships
The field of regulatory science offers excellent career potential for individuals interested in developing medical products, such as drugs, biologics, devices, vaccines, and blood products. While the medical products industry – and the governmental agencies required to protect the public - are large, there are still unmet needs for professionals with knowledge to develop and assess medical products, as well as safety to maintain them in the marketplace, including for new uses. Advanced education in regulatory science aids career advancement and increases individual salaries. An MS in Regulatory Science provides career opportunities that lead to $30,000-$50,000 in increased earnings each year for at least 10 years.
Each $30,000 underrepresented minority scholarship will translate to more than $400,000 in increased earnings. The $3 million in total scholarships will translate to more than $40 million in increased earnings by underrepresented minorities, along with greater career opportunities.
Regulatory affairs departments in the medical products industry require specialized knowledge – both strategic and operational. Regulatory affairs departments currently employ relatively few underrepresented minorities. A more diverse regulatory science profession is expected to help close the gap in health disparities in the US through more equitable selection of medical products for development and more equitable research to support product approval and use. One hundred underrepresented minorities in regulatory affairs departments at companies that deliver tomorrow’s medical products will have impact on health disparities, while enjoying greater career opportunities and higher compensation.
Seeking Applicants for Fall 2024
We are currently seeking applicants for five scholarships for students who are underrepresented in regulatory science that start in Fall 2024.
Individuals who identity as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, or individuals from low socioeconomic status backgrounds (e.g. rural, low-income or health professional shortage area) are encouraged to apply.
Scholarships provide all tuition for the online, part-time MS in Regulatory Science. To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must apply for admission to the MS in Regulatory Science program by May 1, 2024.
In addition, scholarship applicants must email a Scholarship Impact Statement (1,000 words maximum) to sopgradadmissions@rx.umaryland.edu by noon ET on May 15, 2024. The statement should include why you wish to be considered for a scholarship for students who are underrepresented in regulatory science, indicate how you will promote underrepresented students in regulatory science, indicate the degree that your employer (if applicable) is not paying/reimbursing tuition, and describe how the scholarship will impact you. Beyond the Statement of Purpose in your application for admission to the MS program, which will be considered, your Scholarship Impact Statement can also describe your outstanding achievements in regulatory science, future promise in drug/biologics development or evaluation, and planned impact of the MS in Regulatory Science program on your career or professional growth.
