University of Maryland, Baltimore Opens Registration for Its Medical Devices Workshop: "Patient Engagement in Real World Evidence (RWE): Lessons Learned and Best Practices"

(Baltimore, Md., July 17, 2018) – The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), in partnership with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), today announced that registration for its medical devices workshop -- Patient Engagement in Real World Evidence (RWE): Lessons Learned and Best Practices -- is officially open. The workshop, which aims to improve the quality of life for patients with medical devices, will be held on Sept. 12, 2018, at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

Students, patient groups, clinicians, top leaders in the medical device industry, and the FDA will collaborate to improve the way medical devices are evaluated. Session workshops highlight leading stakeholders across the medical device ecosystem and their goal to increase patient access to safe and effective devices.

Fadia T. Shaya, PhD, MPH, tenured professor at the School of Pharmacy, recently announced the keynote speaker, Anne C. Beal, MD, MPH, senior vice president and global head of patient solutions at Sanofi, a top 10 global biopharmaceutical company. "I’m thrilled to have Dr. Beal share her perspective on patient engagement research, based on her vast experience in incorporating patient priorities in the development of healthcare solutions."
