We work closely with each resident to tailor experiences based on their career goals—whether that’s academia, clinical specialization, or research-focused roles.
Comprehensive Oncology Experience
Residents gain comprehensive exposure to both hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Our focus is not just breadth—but depth of engagement, ensuring residents:
- Actively contribute to therapeutic decision-making
- Develop confidence managing complex oncology patients
- Build strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
52-Week Residency Program
This residency program is comprised of 52 weeks, broken up approximately into:
- 43 weeks of core practice experiences
- 8 weeks of electives
- 1 week dedicated to a holiday break

* Will take place during 4th ambulatory clinic experience and by week 2 of Heme II rotations in Quarter 4.
** Will take place during the second half of the residency year when possible and will be evaluated on designated rotation.

* Every third weekend. There are 15 weekends dedicated to distributional and clinical staffing, with 2 additional weekends dedicated to distributional training during orientation. Eight weekends are distributional in Clark Oncology Pharmacy (oncology satellite pharmacy), while the other seven weekends are committed to clinical services. The resident will also staff a half-day weekday shift approximately every 3rd week, typically preceding a distributional staffing weekend.
Other Required Learning Experiences
Participation in Pharmacotherapy Rounds, Journal Club, Professional Development lecture series, and staffing responsibilities is a requirement of all University of Maryland residents. For more information about these specific activities, please visit the Residency & Fellowship Requirements webpage.

- Oncology Pharmacology Topic Series (OPTS) Curriculum
- School of Pharmacy Teaching (up to 40 hours of teaching per semester)
- Pharmacotherapy Rounds (deliver one application-based learning CE presentation; attend ≥15 sessions)
- Case Conference Presentation
- Medical Center Pharmacy Literature Updates Conference (deliver one presentation)
- Educational in-services (deliver two in-services on rotation to alternative audiences with one audience being Clark Oncology Pharmacy staff)
